International Women's Baseball Center Calls Rockford 'Home'

Susan Stephens

Rockford has a long and storied baseball history. Now, an international organization hopes to create a long and storied future for the sport there.

The International Women’s Baseball Center isn’t a place...yet. Right now, it’s a nonprofit that promotes women’s baseball and works to preserve its history. But this Saturday, the organization plants its feet on home plate in Rockford, right across the street from Beyer Stadium.

That’s where the Rockford Peaches played in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League in the 40s and 50s. Kat Williams is president of the International Women’s Baseball Center. She says it’s the perfect spot for their facility, which will include a museum, archives, meeting rooms, offices…a true home for women’s baseball.

Dedication ceremonies for the group’s soon-to-be headquarters will take place at 6PM  Saturday at Beyer Stadium on 15th Avenue in Rockford.
