Illinois wildlife managers are closely watching for signs of a 100 % fatal disease in deer, known as Chronic Wasting Disease. The disease eventually renders the native White-Tailed Deer unable to run and to behave normally.
The cause of the disease is similar to that of so-called Mad Cow Disease.
In this feature we hear from Wildlife Disease Program Manager Doug Dufford.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is conducting a series of state-wide public informational Meetings so the public can learn more about this disease, and how they can help wildlife managers keep an eye on it.
The first Public Informational Meeting will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester, on Tuesday September 18th, 2018.
Then, on Wednesday September 19th, 2018 the IDNR will hold another CWD Public Informational Meeting at the World Shooting Complex in Sparta. Both sessions start at 7:00PM.
For more information about these meetings, or about CWD in general, call Doug Dufford, Wildlife Disease Program Manager at 815-369-2414. You can also contact Mr. Dufford via email at doug.dufford@illinois.gov.
