Bridge Work Continues Along I-88

Victoria Lunacek

The Illinois Tollway is repairing 17 local crossroad bridges carrying traffic over the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), between Illinois Route 251 near Rochelle and Illinois Route 56 near Sugar Grove.

Work is underway on five local bridges over I-88:

  • Mulford Road Bridge in Ogle County is closed to traffic through August. No detour will be posted.
  • Tower Road Bridge in DeKalb County is closed to traffic through August. No detour will be posted.
  • Work on the Shabbona Road Bridge in DeKalb County is scheduled to continue through August. The bridge will remain open; however, all traffic will be limited to a single lane over I-88 with traffic in both directions controlled by flaggers on a daily basis during construction.
  • The Keslinger Road Bridge in DeKalb County is closed to traffic through August. No detour will be posted.
  • The Dauberman Road Bridge in Kane County is closed through August. A detour is posted directing traffic to use Perry Road, County Line Road and Keslinger Road.

The Somonauk Road Bridge has reopened to two lanes, however, work is expected to continue at this location later this summer and will involve once again reducing the bridge to a single lane with traffic in both directions controlled by traffic signals during construction.

In August, work is scheduled to begin on the Willrett Road and University Road bridges in DeKalb County.

  • At the University Road Bridge, a full closure is scheduled to last for a month. A detour will be posted routing traffic to Keslinger Road, Shabbona Road and Malta Road.
  • At Willrett Road Bridge, a full closure is scheduled to last for a month. No detour will be posted.

Work is complete at the Locust Road, Woodlawn Road, Watson Road, Main Street Bridge in Elburn and Bliss Road bridges.
