A Belvidere woman won a quarter of a million dollars in the Illinois Lottery Crossword game.
According to a news release from the Lottery, that is the top prize for the $10 scratch-off ticket.
Martha Barradas, a Belvidere resident of 15 years, says she was “so surprised” that she won. She said so while presenting her ticket at the lottery Prize Center in Rockford.
Barradas bought the ticket from 7-Eleven, 707 Logan St., in Belvidere. The retailer received one percent of the prize amount, or $2,500, for selling the ticket.
Barradas plans to put her scratch-off winnings in the bank for now.
