Democratic leaders in the 16th Congressional district have chosen a candidate to run against Republican Adam Kinzinger this fall. A caucus of county party leaders within the district voted to slate Wanda Rohl.
The Ottawa social worker still has to gather 600 valid petition signatures by June 4th to get on the November ballot. Rohl easily won in an advisory citizens’ caucus last month in DeKalb. There she characterized herself as a “Progressive Democrat” who would stick to her party’s values if elected. She says she’s “pro-choice, pro-woman, and pro-worker.”
Democratic county chairmen from all over the new 16th district caucused in Ottawa last night to choose Rohl. If she gathers enough signatures, she’ll face Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger. Kinzinger chose to run in the newly-drawn 16th district, which Democrats designed to pit two incumbent Republicans against each other. He beat long-time Republican Representative Don Manzullo in the March primary.
