UPDATE: NIU Shooting

DeKalb, IL – One student is in custody and another injured following a shooting on the campus of Northern Illinois University. The incident happened early this morning outside a residence hall. University President John Peters says this appears to be an isolated incident.

The victim was shot in the leg. His injuries are described as non-life- threatening. The suspect was apprehended moments after the shooting and remains in police custody. Authorities have yet to announce a motive in the case.

Earthquake!

DeKalb, IL – If you didn't say it yourself, you certainly heard it...the question of the day. "Did you feel it?" The earthquake, that is. A magnitude 3.8 quake shook northern Illinois awake around 4 this morning. The epicenter of the smallish quake was near Gilberts, in northern Kane County. WNIJ's Susan Stephens spoke with one of the people who "felt it": Paul Stoddard, a geophysicist at Northern Illinois University.

Earthquake in Northern Illinois

DeKalb – A mild earthquake shook northern Illinois this morning.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 4.3-magnitude quake about 3:59:43 a.m. centered about 5.5 miles east of Sycamore and 3.1 miles underground. The epicenter is about 45 miles west of Chicago.

The quake was felt over a wide area, but there were no immediate reports of any damage.
